Abstract

Frank N. (Francis Nelson) Pilling was born in Baltimore, October 17, 1908. The papers consist largely of his personal writings, some in typescript and some in published form. Other items include correspondence, photographs, genealogical records, and documents and notes from his wartime service in London.

Scope and Contents The collection consists of three photostatic copies of the writings of Gregory King. The locations of the original manuscripts are described in the Provenance. Each photostatic copy is bound as a single volume. When the photostatic copies were acquired by the University, "Natural and Political Observations..." and "Naval Trade of England ..." were printed in their entirety under the title Two Tracts by Gregory King, edited by Jacob H. John Stuart Mill letters

Abstract

Collection of English philosopher and economist, John Stuart Mill, consists of over 300 holographic letters written to him by noted economists, philosophers, theologians, and political figures of the nineteenth century. Drafts of Mill's replies are included along with 43 holographic letters written by Mill to Auguste Comte, 1841-1847. Most of the correspondence is published.

Samuel Oldknow was the first successful maker of British muslin in the 18th century. The records, dating from 1787 to 1811, consist of approximately 75 items which include correspondence, pay-tickets, receipts, ledgers, account and memorandum books, shop-notes, and documents.
